Paul Magnuson—Big Art

Artist. Dad. Designer. Husband. Pyro Technician. Fun Uncle. Audio Engineer. Youngest Son. Maker. Little Brother. Tinkerer. Wanderer. Creator. Whatever you choose to call this certified BFA dropout and BComm graduate, he embodies the proverbial title of “working-artist”. A self-described “artistic charlatan”, he believes his technical creations are less art and more experiments in alternative, interactive and immersive public entertainment. Each piece utilizes accessible, but hacked, consumer technology and commercial production equipment in unique combinations, in public spaces, turning the mundane into the insane.

Like moths to lights, we are attracted to the glitz and glamour of bright lights, video, lasers, fireballs and other special fx, and Paul’s not afraid to use all the aforementioned to create inspiring encounters. Whether the artist, technician, designer, project manager or conceptual contributor, he is always pushing the boundaries of large-scale public art.

Big Art exists to ignite imagination and wonder through large-scale, interactive, and immersive public art installations. With a purpose rooted in inspiring creativity, we craft experiences that captivate audiences, spark curiosity, and transform public spaces into vibrant playgrounds for exploration. From fire-shooting portals to code-talking cubes from another dimension, we fuse the technology of yesterday, today, and tomorrow to bring bold artistic visions to life.

Our passionate team designs, builds, and tours robust, safe, and unforgettable installations—whether through our existing catalogue or custom commissions. At Big Art, we believe that art is a catalyst for inspiration and a powerful force that connects people and leaves communities forever changed.
